Raiders ready for Friday Nights: Coach Stafford builds momentum

Coach Demond Stafford leads Northbrook into year two

There’s a new energy on the practice fields at Northbrook High School (NHS), where Campus Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Demond Stafford is preparing the Raiders for his second season at the helm.

After arriving in May last year, Stafford didn’t get the benefit of a full offseason to build the foundation of his program. This fall, that changes.

“This year feels different,” Stafford said. “Our kids have a full offseason, a full summer of work. They know what we expect, they know their roles, and that experience alone makes us better heading into 2025.”

Growing stronger together

Stafford credits his team’s chemistry and commitment as major strengths. Last year, many players were learning the system on the fly. Now, that learning curve has turned into confidence.

“Last season, we were still moving kids around, trying to put them in the right spots,” Stafford said. “Now, they know what position they play, and they understand how our program operates. That makes a huge difference.”

The Raiders have set private team goals, but Stafford shared their overall vision: “We want to be better than last year. We want our hard work to show up every single week.”

Players to watch

Northbrook returns an exciting mix of talent on both sides of the ball.

  • Trindon Silvernale, QB – A leader under center, Tilton brings poise and playmaking to the offense.
  • Guillermo Macias, QB/DB – Versatile junior who will see action at quarterback and in the secondary.
  • Fernando Soto, OL – A key piece in the running game who gives the Raiders balance.
  • Nico Zeledon, RB/LB – Returning from injury, Zeldon has the potential to be a difference-maker.
  • Marcos Reyes, LB – Senior captain who anchors the middle of the defense.
  • Landon Sims, LB/WR – Do-it-all senior who contributes on both sides of the ball.

Leadership matters

This year’s team captains were chosen by a combination of player vote and coaching staff approval—a process designed to reflect respect among teammates. The 2025 Raider captains are:

  • Trenden Tilton – Quarterback
  • Guillermo Macias – Quarterback/Defensive Back
  • Marcos Reyes – Middle Linebacker
  • Landon Sims – Outside Linebacker/Receiver

“We’ve got three seniors and one junior leading the way,” Stafford said. “These guys set the tone on the field and in the locker room.”

The Texas Way at Northbrook

Coach Stafford wants Raider football to reflect the Texas Way—sportsmanship, integrity, and respect.

“It’s always a great day to be a Raider,” Stafford said. “We want our kids to play hard, but also represent Northbrook with class and pride.”

Looking ahead

As Raiders head into the season, Coach Stafford has one simple message:

“We’re stronger, more experienced, and ready to compete. Our kids are excited, and so am I.”
