| I am very impressed with our Art I & II students this year.
There is a tremendous amount of talent that each student is realizing they
own and need to express. We explore many different fields of study including
the following: Nine Pencil Techniques, The Elements & Principles of Art, and
Color Theory. Next, we study still-life, and one & two point perspective
techniques. We are learning proper proportion and relationships of objects,
color, shape and form. After we study and practice the drawing techniques we apply them to our works of Art. Thus, we have created a base to work from to create more detailed works of art. We also use color pencil, oil pastels, chalk, and charcoal. Next, we become familiar with Acrylic and Water Color paints and then create finished works in each category. We also work with Clay. We use the Pinch, Coil, Flat Slab, and combinations of the methods. I also teach the Potter's Wheel which is very popular with students (after they have practiced awhile). We also explore figure sculpture and abstracted forms too. We have a Winter Extravaganza Fine Arts program each December. All my students have been designing works to display and sell . We also work on the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Art Contest with an emphasis on Texas History and Events. There is a separate 3-D sculpture section this year in which we should do very well. We work with computers and Photoshop tools to create altered self portraits. I really enjoy this project. I like how the students can change the way they look. Continuing with computers, we research Artists in History, Time Periods and Styles of Art. One of the final projects we work on is Stained Glass. Our students learn how to use the supplies to make a finished piece ready to hang in a sunny window. There are several chances for students to create their own projects with my permission. I encourage this because it allows students the freedom to use their imagination!!! |
