Mr. Gabriel Perez's Bio

The director of Choral Music at Northbrook is Mr. Gabriel Perez.  His teaching duties include Advanced Mixed Choir (auditioned), Intermediate Treble Choir (auditioned), and Mixed Choir for beginning singers.

      Before coming to Northbrook in 1996, Mr. Perez taught middle school choir in Spring Branch at Spring Woods Middle School.  He also taught the Kantorei of the Spring Branch Boys Choir for 5 years.

      Mr. Perez has been involved in performing as a chorister with various organizations including  Bay Area Chorus, Bach Choral Society and most recently with  Houston Grand Opera. Mr. Perez also sang with the Houston Grand Opera for seven seasons prior to moving to New York City 2001.  While in Manhattan Mr. Perez sang with Connecticut Opera Alliance as a soloist in Die Fledermaus.  He also performed the role of Alfredo in Die Fledermaus with the Danbury Symphony.  Mr. Perez alslo sang as a soloist at  St. Mary’s  Episcopal Church in Manhattan and various New York Music venues.

      Locally, Mr. Perez is very involved in T.M.E.A. Region XXVII activities and has served Region IX as the Mixed Choir Tenor section leader, and judge for District, Region, Pre-Area, and State choir auditions in various regions.  Mr. Perez is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Choral Directors Association and American Choral Directors Association.  He has been selected three times to be in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, Who’s Who Among International Musicians.

      Mr. Perez was born in Houston, Texas, and attended schools in the Pasadena Independent School District. He attended South Houston High School under the direction of Sally Schott, Marsha Carlisle and Rob Seible. He performed throughout Texas and performed in the Texas All-State Choir for two consecutive years.  Mr. Perez has lived in Huntsville, Texas, and New York, New York.  Mr. Perez holds certification in New York as well as Texas.  He holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance as well as State Certification to teach K – 12 Music in Texas from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas; where he studied with Dr.  B.R. Henson, Kent Hatteburg and Walter Foster.

Mr. Perez is available for Private Voice Lessons, Adjudication, and Group Vocal Lessons.
