Class
Rank
- Computation Notification
In order for students to
gauge their academic progress, class rank will computed and released
in the fall semester. All grades earned, including summer school
grades, will be used. Some schools may have made a site based
decision to not count summer school courses for original credit.
Grades of courses retaken in summer, as well as the original course
grade, will be counted in the computation. The total number of
grade points will be divided by the number of courses to obtain
a grade point average (GPA). The GPA will determine the student's
rank in class.
Students in the sophomore and junior class will receive their
class rank by quarter only, e.g., 2nd quarter. Seniors will receive
an individual ranking, e.g., 14th/360 students.
The final class rank for seniors will be determined at the end
of the first semester of the senior year and will be recorded
on the student transcript and will be included in computing class
rank.
- Weighted Letter/Numerical Grades
Weighted grades
are used only to compute class rank.
The following are the basic points of the honors plan as approved
by the Board of Trustees, April 26, 1993.
- Weighted grade points
will only be awarded to honors/AP/GT courses in the four required
areas only. Weighted grade points may be awarded to the following
honors courses when taken in grades 9-12:
Math: Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus,
Calculus, Independent Study, or course to be developed.
English: English I, II, III, IV
Science: Biology I, II; Chemistry
I, II; Physics I, II
Social Studies: World Geography,
World History, US History AP, Government, Economics, and European
History AP
- No more than four
honors courses will receive weighted grade points per calendar
year. A student may receive weighted grade points for only one
course in each of the four required academic areas each year
- Honors courses will
be allowed in elective areas, but will not receive weighted
grade points.
- Class rank will
be calculated on the ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade
years.

Commencement
Exercises
A student may participate
in the high school graduation exercises if he has successfully completed
all requirements as stipulated by the Texas Education Agency and

the ceremony should be directed to the senior grade level principal
or counselor.
Honor graduates including the valedictorian
and the salutatorian will be recognized during the spring commencement
exercises. Students completing graduation requirements after graduation
exercises have been conducted may receive diplomas through the building
