About Me

  • My name is Sara Russo. This is my 9th year as a teacher at Northbrook, and I am also a proud Raider graduate (c/o '97).  I went on to earn degrees in History and Political Science in 2004 from the University of Houston (GO COOGS!!!) and returned to earn a Masters in Education in 2006. I currently teach US History, AP Economics and AP Government. I also sponsor the National Honor Society. I have been married to my husband, Shane, for five years and have 2 brothers and a sister as well as three adorable nephews and a niece. In my spare time, what little there is left, I am a huge sports fan (of all Houston teams) and love to read and listen to music.

This is a particularly important class because in April, all juniors will take Social Studies Exit Level TAKS test based on this class. We will cover all major events including a review of early US History, Reconstruction, Industrialization, Progressive Era, Imperialism, World War I, the Jazz Age, The Great Depression, World War II, the 1950's and the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, and the Vietnam War before the TAKS test. Afterwards,we will cover the 1970's to today.

AP Economics & Government

Minimize

The Advanced Placement course in economics gives high-ability students the opportunity to earn college credit in economics while still in high school. More importantly, the content of an AP Economics course helps students develop critical thinking skills through the understanding, application and analysis of fundamental economic concepts. Through AP Economics, students learn to apply quantitative and mathematical skills to the discipline of economics, test economic propositions empirically, improve their decision-making skills and apply economic logic to a wide variety of real world and hypothetical situations.
