 11th Grade To-Do List

August
__Verify you're scheduled for the correct courses
__Continue 10th Grade activities
__Utilize PLAN results to check college readiness level and career inventory results
__Begin volunteer/community service projects in your community/school
__Start ACT/SAT practice on www.number2.com
 
September
__ Begin attending college sessions at your high school
__Obtain the catalogs/brochures of the colleges/universities
__Utilize tutorials if necessary

__Attend College Night
__Take the PSAT & use the results to help you
__Mark AP test dates in your calendar
 
November
__Set up a working resume
__Visit your school’s college room/center
 
December
__Begin writing your personal essays for applications, scholarships, etc.
__Learn how your GPA will be computed and request a preliminary class rank & GPA
__Study for semester exams!
 
January
__Begin deciding courses for the senior year
__Check for course selection dates with your counselor
__Look into taking high school courses that provide college credit such as Advanced Placement or Dual Credit
 
February
__Request verifications of community service/volunteer work hours
__Research to see if you will need SAT Subject tests
__Register for college entrance exams (SAT and/or ACT) . Check with your counselor to see if you qualify for a fee waiver.
 
March
__Compile your recommendation letters
__Do well on the Exit Level E/LA Test; results will affect your college entrance and/or coursework
__Narrow your college choices to 3 to 5; plan a visit to the campus or check out the website
__Adhere to AP Exam Registration start/deadlines
 
April
__EXIT level Math, Science, and Social Studies TAKS; you may qualify to be exempt from the Texas Success Initiative tests such as the THEA, COMPASS, ACCUPLACER, etc. based on your TAKS results
__Request a transcript and verify your credits are correct
 
May
__Register to take both the ACT and SAT during the summer
__Study and take AP Exams
 
June
__Take the ACT and the SAT
__Visit colleges/universities that are of your interest
__Become involved in a summer activity, e.g. dual credit course, college summer programs, volunteer activities, summer employment, etc
__Continue working on college application essays;  many scholarship essays require responses to similar questions
